FAQ / What to do if a warning exists
Green: No Warning in Effect.
Amber: Level 1 Warning
Elevated levels of sulphur dioxide are currently occurring or are likely to occur in the Flin Flon / Creighton area. Individuals predisposed to respiratory difficulties are advised that they may feel some discomfort.
If a Level 1 Warning is in effect the following is recommended:
- Remain indoors with the windows closed.
- Use a fan or air conditioner to circulate air.
- Do not smoke; avoid smoke from others.
- Avoid unnecessary physical exertion.
- Call your physician or the hospital if you have a cough or difficulty in breathing.
A Level 1 warning condition exists when any two consecutive 15 minute averages of sulphur dioxide levels are greater than 0.34 parts per million by volume.
Red: Level 2 Warning
Elevated levels of sulphur dioxide are currently occurring or are likely to occur in the Flin Flon / Creighton area. All individuals may feel some discomfort.
If a Level 2 Warning is in effect the following is recommended:
- Remain indoors with the windows closed.
- Use a fan or air conditioner to circulate air.
- Do not smoke; avoid smoke from others.
- Avoid unnecessary physical exertion.
- Call your physician or the hospital if you have a cough or difficulty in breathing.
A Level 2 warning condition exists when any one hour average of sulphur dioxide levels are greater than or are expected to be greater than 0.34 parts per million by volume.
Details on hourly and daily air concentrations of sulphur dioxide and an analysis of air quality warnings recorded compared with those issued, along with abatement actions taken by HBMS, have been filed with the Manitoba Environment Act Public Registry at 160-123 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, and at the Flin Flon Public Library; File 1095.30.
